What is this?

Cardboard Sandwich is a blog devoted to tabletop gaming – board games, card games, roleplaying games and anything else you can play around a table with your friends and family. We bring you game reviews, feature articles, designer interviews and lovely things like that.

Board games, like Monopoly?

Board games have moved on in a big way since the likes of Monopoly and Cluedo were published. These days there are thousands of games to choose from, with new releases hitting shop shelves every week. Board games let you save humanity from deadly diseases, fight for survival in a world overrun by zombies or smash unsuspecting cities as a rampaging, 50-foot monster. They can be strategic and challenging, or silly and sociable. Best of all, games provide an opportunity to sit down for face-to-face interaction with real-world opponents.

Who are you?

I’m Owen Duffy, a journalist based in Glasgow, Scotland. I’ve been playing games for about 20 years, and I’ve written about board gaming for publications including The Guardian, Vice and Tabletop Gaming magazine. My wife and I run a weekly game group in Glasgow – if you’re in the area, come and say hi!

When I’m not playing games, my interests include martial arts and heavy metal music.

What’s your review policy?

We receive review copies of games from publishers. Providing a review copy of a game does not guarantee that we’ll feature it on the site.

Because of the complexity of some games, they can require several play sessions to review properly. This can mean that I don’t review games immediately upon their release.

I don’t rate games on a star, point or percentage scale.

If you’re a publisher and would like to have your game considered for review, see my information for publishers.
